나의 작업은 신체와 연결된 피부, 의복, 건축적 공간에서 발생하는 다양한 상황을 통해 존재를 사유하고 삶을 고찰한다. ‘피부’, ‘옷’, ‘건축적 공간’이라는 세 가지 핵심 주제는 서로 긴밀히 연결되어 각자의 경계를 넘나들며, 안/밖, 육체/정신, 사적/공적 같은 이분법적 구도를 전복한다. 피부, 옷, 벽, 문 등은 공간을 구획 짓는 ‘경계’라는 공통점을 지닌다. 나는 이 경계들을 하나의 연장선 위에 놓고, 공간적으로 확장하거나 뒤집는 방식으로 경계를 허무는 시도를 한다. 상반된 요소들이 맞닿는 지점인 경계는 고요하고 잠잠한 표면으로 드러나며, 이 표면은 내외부가 소통하는 장이자 갈등을 중재하는 곳이다.
이번 ‘버튼’ 프로젝트는 ‘바이러스케이프’ 시리즈 이후 진행 중인 ‘비대면’ 시리즈의 일부로, 일상 속에서 사람들과 직접 마주치지 않고도 공유하게 되는 접점을 수집한 작업이다. 건물의 출입구, 엘리베이터 버튼은 한 장소에서 다양한 삶의 터치가 이루어지는 곳이다. 만나고, 헤어지고, 스쳐가는 수 많은 사람들의 일상의 흔적이 중첩되는 이 작은 차가운 버튼에서 생명의 온기를 느낀다. 개방과 폐쇄, 상향과 하향 등을 나타내는 기호들은 물리적 이동을 넘어 인간의 다양한 심리 상태를 암시하는 은유로 작용한다.
Artist's statement Kim Yunkyung_2025
My work contemplates existence and reflects on life through various situations that occur in skin, clothing, and architectural spaces connected to the body. The three core themes of 'skin, 'clothing', and 'architectural space' are linked to each other, entering and exiting each other's boundaries, and subverting the dichotomous situation of inside/outside, body/mind, and private/public. Skin, clothes, walls, doors, etc. have one thing in common: the boundaries that divide the space, and I try to break the boundaries by placing them as an extension and expanding or flipping them spatially. The boundary, which is the point where opposing elements confront, appears as a calm and silent surface, which serves as a place for internal and external communication and mediates conflicts.
This 'Button' project is part of the 'Non-Face-to-Face' series that has been underway since the 'Viruscape' series, and is a work that collects touchpoints that are shared with people in their daily lives without having to meet them directly. The entrance and elevator button of the building are places where various touches of life are made in one place. I feel the warmth of life in this small cold button, where the traces of the daily lives of countless people who meet, part, and pass by are superimposed. The symbols representing openness and closure, upward and downward, etc., serve as metaphors that suggest various psychological states of humans beyond physical movement.
