심승욱 Sim Seungwook
심승욱(b.1972)은 홍익대학교 학부와 대학원, 시카고예술대학 대학원에서 조소를 전공하였다. ‘한번도 경험하지 못한 익숙함’(2022, 수에뇨339), 부재와 임재 사이’(2015, 갤러리아트사이드), ‘구축/해체’(2014, 문화역서울284 RTO), ‘사유의 경계를 허물다’(2011, 텐리갤러리, 뉴욕), ‘검은 풍경’(2009, 티팟갤러리, 쾰른) 등 국내외에서 총13회의 개인전을 개최하였다. 주요소장처로는 국립현대미술관(미술은행), 서울시립미술관, 칼해머갤러리 등이 있으며 난지창작스튜디오, 인천아트플랫폼, 국립현대미술관 고양레지던시, 뉴욕 ISCP 레지던시 등에 참여하였다.
Artist Profile
Born in 1972, Sim Seung-wook studied sculpture at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Hongik University, and later pursued further studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has held 13 solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including:
"Unfamiliar Familiarity" (2022, Sueño 339)
"Between Absence and Presence" (2015, Gallery Artside)
"Construction/Deconstruction" (2014, Culture Station Seoul 284 RTO)
"Dismantling the Boundaries of Thought" (2011, Tenri Gallery, New York)
"Black Landscape" (2009, Teapot Gallery, Cologne)
His works are part of collections at major institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Art Bank), the Seoul Museum of Art, and Carl Hammer Gallery. Sim has also participated in various residency programs, including the Nanji Art Studio, Incheon Art Platform, the Goyang Residency of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York.

심승욱 작가는 최근 작업을 통해 삶 속에서 흘러가는 시간과 함께 사라져 버린 확신, 그리고 남겨진 질문들에 대한 성찰을 담는다. 삶의 매 순간 속에서 불확실성과 감정, 그리고 끊임없이 이어지는 질문들을 탐구한다. 작품에는 과거와 현재를 반영하며, 관람객에게 새로운 시각과 감각적인 경험을 제공한다. 이 전시는 작가의 개인적인 성찰을 넘어 관람객들에게도 질문을 던진다. 흘러가는 시간 속에서 우리가 잃어버린 것과 새롭게 발견할 것들에 대해 깊은 생각을 유도하며, 삶을 바라보는 또 다른 관점을 제시한다.
Sim Seung-wook’s recent works delve into the flow of time, the fading certainties of life, and the lingering questions that remain. His art explores the uncertainties, emotions, and endless inquiries that arise in every moment of life. Reflecting both the past and the present, his works offer viewers a fresh perspective and a sensory experience.
This exhibition goes beyond the artist's personal introspection, posing questions to the audience as well. It invites deep contemplation about what we lose and discover as time flows, offering a new lens through which to view life.
