공간에도 욕망은 존재한다.
어느 공간이든 욕망은 존재한다. 욕망이란 보이지 않은 무형의 개념이지만 공간에서만큼은 이러한 개념이 유형의 무엇인가로 표출이 된다. 그러한 욕망들이 모이고 모여 한 에어리어를 생성한다. 그 에어리어에는 다양한 사람, 물건, 소리, 분위기 등으로 구성되어 있다.
어릴 적 압구정 로데오는 나에게 욕망을 불러일으키는 공간이었다.
한 걸음 내딛을 때마다 새로운 세계로 들어서는 느낌을 주며 어린 나에게는 마치 잡지 속에 튀어나온 듯한 환상의 욕망의 공간이었다.
거리를 거니는 사람들은 모두 자신만의 욕망의 이야기를 가지고 있는 것 같았다.
그들의 옷차림은 단순한 패션을 넘어, 자기 내면의 표현의 수단이자 예술 작품처럼 보였다. 압구정 로데오는 나에게 패션과 스타일이 단순히 옷을 입는 것을 넘어, 자신의 내면과 욕망을 드러내는 창구라는 사실을 깨닫게 해준 곳이다.
오늘도 공간에는 욕망이 존재한다.

Desire exists in space.
Desire can be found in any space. Although desire is an intangible and invisible concept, it often manifests as something tangible within a space. These desires accumulate and form an area characterized by various people, objects, sounds, and atmospheres.
For me, Apgujeong Rodeo was a space that evoked desire during my childhood. Each step felt like entering a new world, and to my young self, it was a fantastical space of desire that seemed to leap out of a magazine.
The people strolling through the streets appeared to carry their own stories of desire. Their attire went beyond mere fashion; it seemed to be an expression of their inner selves, like a work of art. Apgujeong Rodeo made me realize that fashion and style are more than just about wearing clothes—they are a means of revealing one's inner self and desires.
Even today, desire exists in every space.

그리-드 : Vol.1 압구정로데오
그리드의 인물화는 단순화된 형태와 선명한 색상으로 표현된다. 이러한 단순함은 대중적인 성격을 지니며 패션 광고에서 나타나는 이미지의 직관적 전달 방식을 반영한다.
인물들의 얼굴은 일관된 형태인데, 개인의 구체적인 특징보다는 인물의 일반적인 형태와 움직임 그리고 패션 스타일을 묘사하는 데 중점을 두고자 하기 때문이다. 이를 통해 관객이 특정 인물에 주목하기보다는 전체적인 패션 스타일을 먼저 인식하고 본질에 좀 더 가까이 다가가도록 유도한다.
그리드는 패션을 통해 욕망을 탐구한다. 그는 SNS, 대중교통, 거리, 그리고 광고판과 같은 일상적인 장면에서 영감을 받아 작품을 만드는데, 이를 통해 관객들이 일상적인 경험 속에서 느낄 수 있는 미묘한 감정을 탐색하도록 유도한다. 그의 작품에서 관객은 대상을 관찰하고 느끼는 과정 자체를 인식하게 되며, 이는 그가 추구하는 '시각적 인식의 과정'의 중요한 부분이다. 그는 패션 속에서 현대 사회와 인간 경험에 대한 자신의 시각을 제시하며 사람들이 겉으로 드러내지 않는 ‘욕망’을 찾아내고자 한다.
그리드의 세로형 초상화는 대개 길고 좁은 형태이다. 세로형 포맷은 인물의 전신을 묘사하는 데에 유리하고, 인물의 자세, 의상, 그리고 전반적인 존재감을 잘 보여준다. 특히 패션, 포즈, 그리고 인체의 비율 등 전체적인 외양을 효과적으로 전달한다. 이로써 단순히 인물의 모습을 기록하는 것을 넘어 관객이 그림 안에 담긴 여러 감정과 메시지를 읽어내도록 유도한다.
이 전시는 <문화체육관광부, 예술경영지원센터의 2024년 청년작가 홍보 마케팅 지원사업>의 일환으로 갤러리 콜론비가 기획하고, 제작하였다.
그리드 작가가 2024년 압구정 로데오 거리의 스트리트 패션 피플들을 인터뷰, 촬영하고 그 모습을 작가만의 인물화로 재해석한 회화 작품 13점이 전시된다. 그들의 개성있는 모습들은 2024년 동시대를 살아가는 현대인들의 초상이자 내재된 욕망의 표상이다.
이번 개인전은 서울의 갤러리 콜론비와 일본의 치가사키 크리에이티브 스페이스 하야시에서 차례로 개최되며, <그리-----드 Vol.1> 매거진에 수록, 출판된다.

Greeeeed’s portraits are expressed through simplified shapes and vivid colors. This simplicity has a popular appeal and reflects the intuitive conveyance of images seen in fashion advertising. The faces of the figures are consistently shaped, focusing more on the general shape, movement, and fashion style of the person rather than on specific individual features. This approach encourages viewers to recognize the overall fashion style first, rather than focusing on a specific individual, thereby guiding them to connect more closely with the essence of his work.
Greeeeed explores desire through fashion. He creates his works inspired by everyday scenes such as social media, public transportation, streets, and billboards, encouraging viewers to explore the subtle emotions they might experience in their daily lives. In his work, the process of observing and feeling the subject itself becomes a key part of his pursuit of 'visual perception.' He presents his perspective on contemporary society and human experience through fashion, aiming to uncover the 'desires' that are not immediately visible.
Greeeeed's vertical portraits are typically long and narrow. The vertical format is advantageous for depicting the full body of the subject, effectively showcasing their posture, clothing, and overall presence. It conveys fashion, pose, and body proportions, thus effectively communicating the overall appearance. This approach encourages viewers to go beyond merely recording the subject's appearance and to interpret the various emotions and messages embedded within the painting.
This exhibition is part of the <2024 Youth Artist Promotion and Marketing Support Project> by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center, organized and produced by Gallery ColonB. It features 13 paintings by Greeeeed, who has reinterpreted street fashion figures from Apgujeong Rodeo Street in 2024 through interviews and photography. These unique portrayals represent both the contemporary individuals of 2024 and the symbols of their underlying desires.
The solo exhibition will be held sequentially at Gallery ColonB in Seoul and Chigasaki Creative Space Hayashi in Japan, and will be included in the <Greeeeed Vol.1> magazine, which will be published. -ColonB
