코지로 마츠모토는 일본 아카데미 미술 교육과 일본 전통화 특유의 섬세하고 숙련된 기법으로 그만의 미학적 세계관을 펼쳐 왔다. 얼핏 보면 인물의 선이 강조된 일러스트 스타일이라고 생각할 수 있지만 더 들여다보면 정밀한 묘사와 예민한 붓터치, 폭넓은 컬러 스펙트럼으로 깊이있게 완성된 페인팅이다.
코지로의 작품에는 어린 소녀, 소년 그리고 상상 속의 동물들이 등장한다. 어린 소녀의 이미지는 수퍼플랫(일본의 만화, 애니메이션 등 오타쿠 문화를 상위 예술로 끌어올리는 개념)의 모에(일본 만화나 에니메이션의 그림체) 미소녀 캐릭터를 따르고 있지만 섹슈얼리티보다는 귀여움과 사랑스러움을 강조한다. 이러한 주인공들은 작가의 딸이 보는 만화의 주인공이자, 작가의 딸을 투영하고 있기 때문이다. 인재를 나게 하고 복을 가져다준다고 알려진 용, 기린 등 전설의 동물들은 일본의 오래된 사찰 등에 기록된 벽화와 고서적에서의 철저한 고증을 통해 그만의 스타일로 재해석하였다.
작가는 최근 독일, 홍콩, 미국, 일본, 중국, 대만, 이스라엘 등에서 전시를 열어 왔고, 그의 작품을 사랑하는 다양한 컬렉터 층을 형성하고 있다. 콜론비의 주최로 한국에서 최초로 열리는 이번 개인전의 타이틀 <원더랜드>는 작가가 “전시 공간이 관람객들이 신기하고 즐겁게, 신나게 감상하는 곳이 되길 바라는" 마음을 담아 정했다.

Kojiro Matsumoto has developed his own aesthetic worldview with delicate and skilled techniques unique to Japanese academy art education and Japanese traditional painting. At first glance, you can think of it as an illustration style that emphasizes the line of the character but if you look further, it is a painting that is deeply completed with precise description, sensitive brush touch, and wide color spectrum.
Kojiro's work features young girls, boys, and legendary animals. The image of a young girl follows the girl character of Superflat (the concept of elevating otaku culture to higher art such as Japanese manga and anime), but emphasizes cuteness and loveliness rather than sexuality. This is because these characters are the main characters of the cartoon that the artist's daughter sees and project to her. Legendary animals such as dragons and kirin, known to inspire talent and bring blessings, were reinterpreted in their own style through murals recorded in old Japanese temples and thorough historical evidence in ancient books.
The artist has recently held exhibitions in Germany, Hong Kong, the United States, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Israel, forming various collectors who love his works. The title of the solo exhibition, "Wonderland," hosted by ColonB, is set by the artist with the hope that "the exhibition space will be a place where visitors can enjoy it with novelty, enjoyment, and excitement".
