This project began with an encounter with Gallery ColonB. After each visit to the gallery in Seoul, we found ourselves agreeing with the direction of the gallery and decided to present artists from both countries at each other's galleries. As part of the Korean government's (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Arts Management Support Center's 2024 Youth Artists Publicity and Marketing Support Program), Gallery ColonB has planned and directed an exhibition by up-and-coming artist Greeeeed, who is already active in collaborations with major companies, in Seoul. And Japan at our gallery CREATIVE SPACE HAYASHI. We would like to thank the Korean government, Gallery ColonB, and Greeeeed for allowing us to present Greeeeed's first solo exhibition in Japan, “2024 Apgujeong (Apgujeong),” here in Chigasaki. We would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr. Hiroyuki Kimura of Command A, LLC, an artist collective, for connecting us with An Seonyeong of Gallery ColonB.

CREATIVE SPACE HAYASHI
We have produced this space as a place where people can connect with each other and where ideas and inspiration can be born. We always place importance on creating a space that makes an impact, and aim to create a space that will remain in the memory for a long time, rather than a place for the presentation of artworks that only lasts for a moment. We believe that a gallery enriches people's minds and lives, and leads to the revitalization of society as a whole. Our exhibitions and presentations are not limited to Chigasaki, but also exhibiting at ART FAIR TOKYO 2016, AiPH2018, AFAF2018, 3331ART FAIR 2021 and exhibiting artworks in Niseko-Hokkaido and Hakuba-Nagano. We also practice activities as social contributions.
Greeeeed’s portraits are expressed through simplified shapes and vivid colors. This simplicity has a popular appeal and reflects the intuitive conveyance of images seen in fashion advertising. The faces of the figures are consistently shaped, focusing more on the general shape, movement, and fashion style of the person rather than on specific individual features. This approach encourages viewers to recognize the overall fashion style first, rather than focusing on a specific individual, thereby guiding them to connect more closely with the essence of his work.
Greeeeed explores desire through fashion. He creates his works inspired by everyday scenes such as social media, public transportation, streets, and billboards, encouraging viewers to explore the subtle emotions they might experience in their daily lives. In his work, the process of observing and feeling the subject itself becomes a key part of his pursuit of 'visual perception.' He presents his perspective on contemporary society and human experience through fashion, aiming to uncover the 'desires' that are not immediately visible.
Greeeeed's vertical portraits are typically long and narrow. The vertical format is advantageous for depicting the full body of the subject, effectively showcasing their posture, clothing, and overall presence. It conveys fashion, pose, and body proportions, thus effectively communicating the overall appearance. This approach encourages viewers to go beyond merely recording the subject's appearance and to interpret the various emotions and messages embedded within the painting.
This exhibition is organized and produced by Gallery ColonB as part of the ‘Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’ and the ‘Korea Arts Management Service (KAMS)’s <2024 Youth Artist Promotion and Marketing Support Program>. It is a series of exhibitions focusing on specific locations, reflecting their local characteristics and contemporaneity. For this series, the artist Grid has conducted interviews and photographed street fashion individuals from Apgujeongrodeo street in 2024, reinterpreting these images as portrait paintings. The 13 artworks showcase their unique appearances as portraits of contemporary individuals living in 2024, symbolizing their inherent desires.
This solo exhibition will be held sequentially at Gallery ColonB in Seoul and Creative Space Hayashi in Chigasaki, Japan, and will be featured and published in magazine. We would like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to Ms. Misa Hayashi, the owner of CREATIVE SPACE HAYASHI, as well as the staff members who showed sincerity and consideration. We also want to thank Mr. Hiroyuki Kimura of Command A, LLC, for connecting ColonB with CREATIVE SPACE HAYASHI
