Artsilo JEJU : Into the Cuteness of art that soothes the weary mind

“Artsilo JEJU” will be held at the exhibition space and art shop <Misulchango-Gyul(Gul chango)>, which was created by remodeling the tangerine warehouse in Jocheon-eup, Jeju.
"Silo," meaning "storage" or "warehouse," demonstrates how physical space was originally meant to be used. The Visual Art Research Institute, Pilseung-sa Gallery, and Colon B Arts Gallery, displayed several artworks in the storage room under the theme of "Cuteness."
Living in a cliché and hard modern society, we are slowly exhausted in body and mind. Furthermore, recent contemporary art has often been rather abstruse, so we are more keen to comprehend these works, rather than to enjoy them light-heartedly. However, the works featured under the thematic “Cuteness” presented by <Pilseung-sa Gallery> and <Colon B Arts Gallery> provide light and cheerful enjoyment and raise a natural smile in their audiences. The feeling we have when we see something cute is simple but intense; this may be an important advantage that only visual artworks can have. Looking at artworks based on various characters, our tired hearts seem to heal little by little.
Although the theme of the exhibition is "cuteness," artworks evoking various distinct sensibilities are also on display: Contemporart Korean painter Lee Young-soo’s paintings and Thai artist Wisut Ponnimit’s character “Mamuang” make us smile as soon as we see them. Emotional illustrations of Japanese painter Niki will be introduced, too. The illustration created by Spanish painter Fernando Rivas’ outstanding imagination, leads us into another world. The grafitti artworks of Park Joon-ki, a KOMA painter known as the first generation of graffiti in Korea, captivate our vision with intense colors and features. We can also see Hong Si-ya and Choi Geon's sensuous and unique works on display. Various art products will also be included in the exhibition.
This exhibition of "Artsilo JEJU" will be a ‘healing time.' Everyone can enjoy themselves through "cuteness" away from the realm of pure artworks that can only be appreciated seriously. These "cute" artworks can offer us ‘small but certain’ happiness and give new energy to our daily lives.
